To build a website with AI, describe your business in plain words and let an AI builder design the pages for you. You then refine the result and publish it. InstaWP Studio does this and hands back a standard WordPress site, built from native blocks on a block theme, with a first page in about three to five minutes. Because the output is ordinary WordPress, you can leave the AI at any point and carry on in wp-admin.
InstaWP wrote this introduction after running Studio first-hand. On 27 October 2026 InstaWP built a six-page site from a short brief. On 29 October 2026 it copied a 14-page Webflow site into WordPress. The screenshots below come from those runs, and so do the timings and credit counts. None of them is a mockup.
- InstaWP Studio is a chat-based AI website builder whose output is a real WordPress site: native blocks, a block theme and no page builder to depend on.
- You start one of four ways: a description, the address of a site you already have, one of 8 ready-made templates, or a blank site. In an InstaWP test, a 14-page Webflow site came across in about two minutes, at the same page addresses.
- You edit three ways (say it, point at it, or use the WordPress editor). Every change reports Done, Partially done or Blocked, and Undo takes it back in one click.
- Building is free with no account and no card. Hosting starts at $5 a month per site, and each hosted site gets 100 AI credits a month.
- After launch you can keep editing from Claude or ChatGPT through InstaMCP, which makes it a natural hand-over for agencies.

What is InstaWP Studio?
InstaWP Studio is an AI website builder that turns a few sentences about a business into a real WordPress site. You talk to it in chat, the way you would brief a designer. It designs the pages, builds them from WordPress’s own blocks on a block theme, and publishes the site to managed WordPress hosting on InstaWP when you are ready.

Studio’s output is an ordinary WordPress install: pages, posts, media and forms you can open in the WordPress Site Editor like any other site. There is no page builder underneath and no proprietary format. You can stop using the AI tomorrow and keep the site.
Studio also does developer work. Because it works inside WordPress, it can install and set up plugins, change settings, write small custom plugins and make the same change across every page. Later sections cover that in detail.
How do you build a website with AI in InstaWP Studio?
You describe the business, pick one of three looks, then refine and publish. There is no questionnaire and no theme to choose first. The whole path from a blank page to a live site runs in one browser tab, and nothing costs money until you publish.
Step 1: Describe your business
Open InstaWP Studio and write a few sentences, the way you would explain the business to a designer on the phone. Say who it is for, how it should feel and what a visitor should do next. A few sentences is plenty. You can also attach images, or speak instead of typing.
You do not need an account or a card at this stage. Studio builds inside your browser within a free allowance, and asks you to sign in with InstaWP only when you want to keep going or publish.

Step 2: Pick a look made for you
Studio sketches three directions for your business: one on-brief, one calmer and one wilder. The sets differ by business, so a law firm and a tattoo studio get very different options. You can nudge any look calmer or wilder before you commit, or skip straight to a first design.

Step 3: Refine and publish
Your first page arrives in about three to five minutes. That time goes on a design agent writing the homepage, checking it and improving it before you see it. After that, edits take seconds. You add pages, posts and forms as you go.
When it looks right, you press Publish, sign in, choose an address and a plan, and the site goes live on InstaWP. Every site gets a free instawp.site address with SSL. You can register a new domain during publishing, or connect a domain you already own once the site is live.

How long does a whole site take? In InstaWP’s 27 October 2026 run, Studio built a six-page site from one brief in 334 seconds, about five and a half minutes, using 6.9 AI credits. A single chat edit afterwards took 8.5 seconds and 0.3 credits. They come from one run on one brief, so treat them as a guide rather than a promise.
What are the four ways to start a site in Studio?
Studio’s start screen offers four ways in, and all four end in the same editable WordPress site. The main box asks you to describe the business. Below it, under “or start another way”, are three more: Bring over your website, Pick a template and Blank site.
| Start from | What you give Studio | What it does | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Describe it | A few sentences on who the business is for, how it should feel and what a visitor should do, plus optional images. Or tap one of the examples under the box. | Designs a site from scratch and offers three looks | A new business, or a full redesign |
| Bring over your website | The address of the site you have now | Scans it and rebuilds it on WordPress, as a copy or in a fresh design | Moving off Webflow, Wix, Squarespace or an old site |
| Pick a template | Your pick of 8 ready-made templates | Rewrites the template for your business | Getting to a finished layout fastest |
| Blank site | Nothing up front | Creates an empty WordPress site that you describe in chat when you are ready | Building page by page, or when you are not ready to write a brief |
Read that table by the last column. Describe it when you have a business but no design. Bring over your website when the platform is the problem, not the design. Pick a template when you would rather react to a finished design than write a brief. Start blank when you want an empty WordPress site and plan to build it up in chat.
Which templates does InstaWP Studio offer?
On 29 October 2026, the Studio template gallery held 8 templates: Accounto, Beauty Salon, Goodline Handyman, Hair treatment, Learning Atlas, Oshine Freelance Designer, Photographer Portfolio Dark and Signal Ledger. Each one is a complete site with pages, header, footer, colours and photos.
Some are one-page sites, others have four or more pages, and you can search the gallery by name, kind or tag. After you pick one, Studio rewrites it for your business, and you change the rest in chat or by clicking any part of the page.

Which types of sites can InstaWP Studio move to WordPress?
InstaWP Studio can copy most websites whose pages are public, because it reads the published pages instead of logging in to the platform behind them. That covers website builders, hosted online stores and hand-coded HTML sites. It cannot copy pages behind a login, a platform’s own cart or account pages, or sites that block reading.
On 29 October 2026, InstaWP ran the same Copy my site test on public demo sites from six platforms.
| Platform | Type of site | Result in InstaWP’s test, 29 October 2026 | What did not come over |
|---|---|---|---|
| Webflow | Website builder | Copied: 14 pages and 104 images in about 2 minutes (Café template) | One icon font, a pop-up video and scroll animations |
| Squarespace | Website builder | Copied: 8 pages and 35 images in about 2 minutes (Bedford demo) | The footer sign-up section on 4 pages |
| Wix | Website builder | Copied: 5 pages and 43 images in about 1.5 minutes (Adam Kann template) | One form, which now shows as plain content |
| Shopify | Hosted online store | Copied: 16 pages and 90 images in about 3 minutes (Dawn theme demo) | The cart, the account pages and the header. Collections become ordinary pages, so there is no working shop. |
| Static HTML | Hand-coded site | Copied: 3 of 4 pages and 12 images in 40 seconds (HTML5 UP Forty template) | One page of form examples, and the contact section |
| Framer | Website builder | Not copied: Studio reported that nothing on the home page could be copied, on 2 of 2 Framer templates | Everything |
Read the table by the last column. Which platform a site is on mattered less than what was on its pages. Text, images, fonts and simple forms came over in every test that worked, at the same page addresses.
Complex forms, shop features and animations are what dropped out, and Studio named each one in its report instead of hiding it. None of the six tests used AI credits: the account’s balance stayed at 4,670 credits from the first test to the last.

Three cases need a different route. A Shopify store copies as a storefront, not as a shop, so move the products and orders with a Shopify to WooCommerce migration and use Studio for the look. A Framer site did not copy in InstaWP’s test, so describe the business in Studio instead.
And a site already on WordPress does not need Studio’s copy at all: InstaWP’s one-click WordPress migration moves its plugins, database and users, which a copy of the public pages cannot.
InstaWP has not tested other builders yet, such as GoDaddy Website Builder, Weebly, Jimdo, Carrd or HubSpot CMS. Because Studio reads the published pages, the quickest check is to paste your own address and read the report Studio writes.
Nothing on your current site changes. For a manual move, InstaWP also has a guide to switching from Wix to WordPress.
How do you edit a site that Studio built?
You can edit it three ways, and all three work on the same site, so you can switch between them without losing anything. Say the change in chat, point at the part you want changed, or open the page in the WordPress editor and change it yourself.
| Way to edit | How it works | Use it for |
|---|---|---|
| Say it | Type the change in plain words. Studio finds the right place and makes it, on one page or across the whole site. | “Make every button say Book a visit”, new sections, new pages |
| Point at it | Click any part of the page and leave a comment beside it. Nothing changes until you press Apply. | Batches of small fixes, client feedback rounds |
| Edit it yourself | Open any page in the normal WordPress editor and retype it. Your changes are kept when you go back to chat. | Exact wording, a quick typo, anything you would rather not describe |
Every change ends with a status that Studio checks itself: Done, Partially done or Blocked. A partial result tells you which part did not land instead of hiding it, and Undo takes any change back in one click.
Here is what that looks like in practice. On 29 October 2026, InstaWP asked Studio, in one sentence, to change the first homepage heading of the copied Café site to “Brunch on the terrace” and to make every Reservation and Book a Table button across the site say “Reserve a table”. Studio took 78.7 seconds and 0.3 credits, and changed the header, footer, hero and Contact page buttons on every page except one. Its chat reply said “Done”.
The status it checked for itself said Partially done, because one page, Template, was not changed, and it named that page. It also explained why it had left a large “Book A Table” heading alone: the heading is not a button. So read the status line as well as the chat reply. The status is a check Studio runs for itself, while the reply is the AI describing its own work.

What can Studio do beyond design?
Studio handles the kind of jobs you would usually ask a WordPress developer for on a small site, because it works inside WordPress itself. One request can touch several of these at once. For example, it can add an enquiry form, turn off blog comments and write a post about new opening hours, then check both pages at three screen widths.
- Pages and posts: an About page, a services page or a blog post, each designed in your site’s style.
- WordPress settings: turn off comments, change the tagline or tidy up links, just by asking.
- Plugins: ask for a feature and Studio finds a plugin in the WordPress plugin directory, installs it and sets it up.
- New features: when no plugin fits, Studio writes a small custom plugin styled to your site, and lists every piece of code it wrote.
- Your plugins’ actions: if a plugin offers actions through the WordPress Abilities API, Studio uses them directly.
- Whole-site changes: new brand colours, larger text or one change to every button, made across every page in a single request.
It also builds the working parts many small-business sites need, as working WordPress features:
- A small online shop. Studio installs WooCommerce, adds your products and prices, and sets up a cart and checkout with manual payment, such as pay on collection. Card payments, such as Stripe for WooCommerce, you connect yourself.
- Forms that save every entry in WordPress.
- A blog that updates itself, so new posts appear on your pages on their own.
- Site search styled to match your design.
- Tabs, FAQs and sliders built as real blocks, plus touches such as count-up numbers, filters and show-more.
If you need a specialist feature, such as an events calendar, Studio installs the plugin and builds around it. InstaWP’s walkthrough of how to create an event website with AI shows that pairing step by step with an events plugin.
How does Studio keep risky changes in check?
On a live site, anything that runs custom code or deletes content waits for you to approve it first. Studio shows the action in plain words, for example “Delete the page About from the live site?”, with Skip and Approve buttons, and nothing happens until you choose.
Three more controls sit around that gate. Every change reports Done, Partially done or Blocked, so a half-finished job is visible. Undo reverses the last change in one click. And once the site is live, outside AI assistants connect through InstaMCP with Safe Mode on by default, which blocks destructive writes and deletes. Raw code and database access stay off until you turn them on.
What quality checks does Studio run before you see a page?
Studio measures every page at phone, tablet and desktop widths before you see it, and sends any problem back for a repair. It also checks the details that usually take a plugin or a developer to get right:
- Layout at phone, tablet and desktop widths.
- Text contrast and text sizes, the readability basics WCAG contrast guidance describes.
- A page title and a social sharing card for each page.
- Fonts served from your own site, and right-sized images.
- Alt text for your images, when you ask for it.
That is why the first page takes minutes rather than seconds, and why a Studio site does not need a stack of extra plugins for responsive layout, sharing cards or search basics.
What does InstaWP Studio do well, and what is best-effort?
Studio does simple features well and complex ones on a best-effort basis. InstaWP publishes that split on the Studio page itself instead of claiming the builder can make anything, and the table below repeats it word for word.
| Works well | Best-effort | May still need a developer |
|---|---|---|
| Pages and posts | Memberships and user accounts | Complex features in general |
| Forms that save entries | Bookings | |
| WordPress settings | Card payments | |
| Installing plugins | Large catalogues | |
| A small shop |
Read it this way: if your site is mostly pages, posts, forms and a handful of products, Studio covers it. If it depends on member logins, a booking calendar, card checkout or hundreds of products, Studio can start it, but plan to check that part carefully or bring in a developer. Because the result is plain WordPress, any WordPress developer can pick it up from where Studio stopped.
Can you keep editing the site with Claude or ChatGPT after launch?
Yes. Once the site is live on InstaWP, you can keep editing it in Studio, or connect it to Claude or ChatGPT and make changes from there. One click adds the live site to Claude. ChatGPT takes a short copy-and-paste. Both connect through InstaMCP, InstaWP’s Model Context Protocol (MCP) layer for WordPress, which offers 40+ tools for content, plugins, media and logs.
You stay in charge of access. In InstaMCP’s settings you set a token per connection and a WordPress role for it, and you can revoke any connection at any time. Safe Mode is on by default. InstaWP’s guide to connecting AI assistants to your WordPress site using MCP covers each client, and InstaWP has separate walkthroughs to connect Claude to WordPress and connect ChatGPT to WordPress.
How does the agency hand-over work?
An agency or freelancer builds the site in Studio, publishes it on InstaWP and hands it over. The client then connects the live site to Claude or ChatGPT and makes small edits with their own AI assistant, such as a new opening time, a price change or a blog post. The agency keeps control through per-connection tokens and WordPress roles, so a client connection can be limited to an Editor role and revoked when the engagement ends.
For a small-site retainer, that means the client no longer files a ticket for a one-line change, while the agency still owns the hosting, the access and the bigger work. If you manage many client sites, InstaWP’s tools for agencies and site management features sit on the same dashboard. Before you hand AI access to a client, read InstaWP’s guide to whether WordPress MCP is safe.
How much does InstaWP Studio cost?
Building a site in InstaWP Studio is free, with no account and no card. You pay for hosting once the site is live, from $5 a month per site, and the AI keeps working at no extra charge while you host with InstaWP.
| Stage | What you pay | Details |
|---|---|---|
| While you build | Free | No account, no card. You work within a free allowance in your browser, and sign in to keep going or publish. |
| When you go live | From $5 a month per site | An InstaWP hosting plan and an address. Add a domain you buy during publishing or one you already own. |
| For as long as you host | Included | 100 AI credits per site per month, whatever the plan. No separate AI subscription. |
A credit is Studio’s unit of AI work. A new site costs about 10 credits and most edits cost less than one, so 100 credits a month covers hundreds of everyday edits. InstaWP’s own runs line up with that: 6.9 credits for a six-page site and 0.3 for a chat edit. A few rules worth knowing:
- Credits refill every month on your billing date, and unused credits do not carry over.
- A site you add partway through the month adds its share for the days that remain.
- A run that fails without changing your site is refunded.
- Credits come with InstaWP’s pay-per-use hosting.
- Extra credit packs for big redesigns are on the way, but are not on sale yet.
You can see your balance, the next refill date and every run’s cost in the InstaWP dashboard under Profile, Payment, Studio credits, with a CSV download. For plan details, compare InstaWP managed hosting plans, and read how to choose a site plan before you publish.
Who is InstaWP Studio for?
InstaWP Studio is for anyone who wants an AI builder’s speed and a WordPress site at the end of it. Four groups get the most from it:
- Small businesses that need a credible site with real forms, a blog and maybe a small shop, without hiring a designer first.
- Freelancers who want to get to a first draft a client can react to in minutes, then finish it in WordPress.
- Agencies that build many small sites and want to hand them over to clients who edit with their own AI assistant.
- Vibe coders who like building by prompt but want standard WordPress output that any WordPress developer can pick up. InstaWP’s guide on how to vibe code a website covers the wider workflow.
If you already know WordPress well and would rather work outside Studio, you can also create a WordPress staging site or a sandbox on InstaWP directly and bring your own tools. Developers who prefer a terminal can drive the same sites with the InstaCLI or Claude Code.
InstaWP Studio takes you from a few sentences, or an existing site on another platform, to a live WordPress site in one browser tab. It publishes its own limits and checks its own pages. What it leaves you with is ordinary WordPress you can keep, edit by hand, extend with plugins or hand to a client who edits it with AI. Start with a description or paste your current address, and judge the first page for yourself. It costs nothing until you publish.
FAQs
Can I build a website with AI for free?
Yes. Designing and building a site in InstaWP Studio is free, with no account and no card. You only pay once you publish it on InstaWP hosting, from $5 a month per site, and the AI stays included while you host.
Does WordPress have an AI website builder?
WordPress itself does not build a site from a description. InstaWP Studio does that job and hands back a standard WordPress site on a block theme, so you can open any page in the WordPress editor, add plugins and carry on without the AI.
Is a site built with InstaWP Studio really WordPress?
Yes. Every site is a standard WordPress site with real pages, posts, media and forms, built from WordPress blocks on a block theme. There is no page builder to depend on.
How long does it take to build a website with InstaWP Studio?
The first page takes about three to five minutes, because a design agent writes it, checks it and improves it before you see it. Later edits take seconds. In an InstaWP test on 27 October 2026, a six-page site took about five and a half minutes.
Can InstaWP Studio convert my Webflow site to WordPress?
Yes. Paste your site address on the Studio import screen and Studio copies your public pages into WordPress with the same words, photos and page addresses, up to 30 pages. Some sites block reading, and interactive features can come across simpler, so check every page before you switch your domain.
Can I edit my site without the AI?
Yes. Open any page in the WordPress editor and change it yourself. When you go back to chat, your manual changes are kept.
Is the AI in InstaWP Studio really free?
Building is free. Once the site is live, every hosted site gets 100 AI credits a month, whatever its plan, which covers hundreds of everyday edits. There is no separate AI subscription.
Can I use my own domain?
Yes. When you publish, pick an InstaWP hosting plan, then buy a domain or connect one you already own.
Can I edit my Studio site from Claude or ChatGPT?
Yes. Once the site is live on InstaWP, connect it to Claude in one click or to ChatGPT with a short copy-and-paste. The connection runs through InstaMCP, with per-connection tokens, WordPress roles and Safe Mode on by default.
Can I build a site for a client with InstaWP Studio?
Yes. Build it, publish it on InstaWP and hand it over. Your client connects the live site to Claude or ChatGPT and makes small edits with their own AI assistant, while you control access with per-connection tokens and WordPress roles.
