Enshitification has killed another great plugin

what used to be stable and reliable, and trusted, has now been uninstalled and removed from all of my sites.

It takes real talent to take something so useful, and bloat it with so much crap that it becomes worthless.

Stopped working (again)

Stopped working on all sites that are running WordPress 5.4. It shows no visitors anymore after the update. Could be an issue with WP 5.4 of course, it seems to be having more issues but all other stats programs on other sites do work (I manage almost 50 websites).

--- Updated review: after updating to WP5.5 (and on WPS 13.04 now) it is working again. However removed it from most sites it was running on. It is now active on only one site but working well again. Updated the rating to 4**** and edited the review because of that.

--- Update, June 6, 2025

the plugin stopped working as of May 6th. It doesn't record visits to posts anymore, doesn't seem to track visits from search engines - it started to malfunction on May 6th, and totally quit tracking visitors on May 8th. It's active on two sites, but well, .. it's just too unreliable (again).

Downgraded rating to 2** and will remove it.

Honest review: 10 years of WP Statistics

I first started using this plugin in 2016 and used to install it on every WordPress site I created. I had it installed on a fairly high-traffic site (over 10M monthly pagevisits) for 3+ years and it used to work reliably and give one of the most accurate traffic counts of all analytics solutions available.

However, since 2020 this plugin has been totally unreliable and a serious risk to site security and uptime.

A few years back, there was an update to this plugin that completely broke certain sites and could only be fixed by entering the website root and disabling the plugin. I stopped using the plugin entirely then and disabled it on all my sites.

Recently, I discovered my server CPU has been running high and pages have been hanging for 1-2 seconds on load. This was on a fairly low-traffic site (<10k monthly visitors), and lo and behold, it's WP Statistics had been re-enabled and was the root cause. Disabling the site immediately solved the issue and reduced page load time by nearly half.

I've completely lost faith in this plugin, and have probably lost thousands in sales over the years due to this plugin's poor performance impairing page load times. Will not ever be using this again.

It lets you see where the paid search and organic search IP locations are which is great. It helped me to tailor my Google Ads campaign so I'm not paying for clicks that will never convert.
