The plugin that killed Gigpress. Thanks, but no thanks.
By guerrilladigital on January 25, 2023
This plugin is bloated. Tried it a few times over the years, and it never really did the trick for me.
When The Events Calendar folks acquired Gigpress, they didn't do much to maintain it. They simply used the opportunity to try and onboard Gigpress users to their less-than-stellar plugin. They eventually sold their plugin to LiquidWeb, but no word about Gigpress. Now the future of Gigpress is in the air because of this greasy move.
PLEASE read before using this plugin!

I could write a dozen paragraphs explaining issue after issue after issue that I had with this plugin, from basic functionality not working, to breaking other plugins, to horrific support, to trying to charge my card even after cancelling. I'm always hesitant to write negative reviews, because I assume that I'm an "edge case" in some way. But this is SO FAR BEYOND the worst experience I've ever had with any other software that I've ever used, I felt I had to try to warn at least ONE person and save them the pain (dozens of hours and thousands of dollars lost) that I've experienced because of this "tool".

I am a long time user of this plugin but I am having to move away from it. They overcomplicate the process, and in our case it seems hey did a horrible job as they upgraded the plugin as they basically broke any any previous customizations, and it seems to generate non-accessible code. Also, I have had it total crash a site, just tying to upgrade or delete it.
Maybe we are doing something wrong, but it is no worth the hassle trying to get this plugin to work. We will get it working on one site, just to have it break on another. Hopefully others are having better results.

As a novice, it's really comforting to know that I can get great support when I need it. Sam at The Events Calendar quickly came back to me with the solution to my problem. Thank you Sam!

Amazing support from Guga. A quick response each time, and good responses - clear and to the point.
Software could do with being more user friendly to provide features you might expect as standard.
But cannot fault the support.
Best plugin to create an events website.

Updating to v.6: Nightmare
By toad78 on January 6, 2023
I have been using the Events Calendar since version 4. Prior to version 6, I didn't have any problems with plugin updates. After the v.6 update, that's where the nightmares began:
- All of my styles broke because the plugin's code changed (btw, I always use a child theme).
- The layouts broke.
- Functionality broke.
- I'm still struggling to understand why the full calendar doesn't post the events on it (yes, they are public).
- "Migration" was an issue after the update. Even after the migration was complete, I was getting a "Migration in progress" message on one of my site's, which didn't make any sense.
- Deactivating the plugin crashed a few sites I have it installed.
- and other items...
I know minor issues are going to arise after updates, I understand that. But I will say that what I experienced were not minor issues. They were MAJOR issues that required a lot of time to contact support (more than a day would go by till I received responses--they were probably overwhelmed with issues to respond), redevelop the styles, contacting support again, and so on and so forth. Time wasted = wages lost.
I've posted support directly to the developers as well as in this forum. While I appreciate assistance from other users and the moderator(s), the timeliness wasn't there (everyone has a life and is busy).
So now I'm at the point where I am looking at other options because of the headaches I experienced (and still am) after updating to v.6. Is it a good reason to go with an alternative? Maybe. I really liked the integration of Tickets with Events, which is one of the reasons why I stuck with The Events Calendar Pro. However, I think it's a good idea to have some other options that maybe won't be as costly.
Code quality is extremely bad
By MarcelC (imc67) on January 4, 2023
already for years they created nice functionality ... if it works and that last one is lacking because of really bad code quality, too complex and not flexible.
Only one look at the amount support requests, speed of answer, answers and all the x.x.x.x versions to solve only little parts and create bigger issues.
