It does exactly what it's supposed to do. I don't know why some people say that it creates a new image instead of replacing, perhaps they don't complete the process... Yes, you need to upload the new image so temporarily, after step 1, there's the old and the new image. But then you select the new image as the replacement and the plugin moves the new onto the old one, completely replacing it and there's no extra copy of it. Also note that if you have any image compression plugins that create for example webp version, you'll have to manually delete and re-create those versions.

Works like a charm!

A godsend

This plugin works for Images AND files so before I found this plugin I was deleting the original file, then uploading the updated version. I then had to go to everywhere the file was installed and update it's URL and then the cache had to be refreshed until I could be sure that everything was ok. Now with Replace Image I simply upload the updated file and open the original and click replace, simple, no changing URL's or playing with cache, love it.

The best image replacement tool

Tried the others, didn't work, tried this one, worked first time and seems more intuitive to be able to copy alt text etc. Thank you for producing and maintaining this valuable tool. The community thanks you.

thank goodness for this!

Crazy that one needs to add a plug-in for something so basic, but since one does, I'm sure glad for this plug-in! But DO delete those caches! Wasted a lot of time trying to figure out why it wasn't working and that was the answer.

Great plugin!

Simple & Straighforward 'It Just Works!'

Not much to add. I downloaded this because I often have to make ongoing adjustments to images but have them placed in context with code and styling applied, so don't want the faff of having to copy and paste all the deets into place once a new image is created. This plugin does a great job of replacing existing images in situ without fuss. Thanks!

It created a new image instead

Not sure how I could do this wrong, but chose "Replace Image", uploaded an image, clicked "Replace" and it added a new image to my media library without replacing the old one.
